Default [ Something Other Then Fire ]

I have been playing 2 years on my ele using fire magic. Well I want to try something different now.

My options are Earth, Air, Water. Looking for a descent with dmg and survive.

Looking to do HM with heros of course.

I only have Prof, Nightfall, and eye of the north.

I hear earth and water are good but I know far too little about it. Fire I have always used, but from reading posts I hear fire isnt that great.

Any ideas or some builds I could try?

Each element has their own "purpose" with an ele.

Earth is more for defense *which is why you see W/E using earth spells for tanking*

Water is more for "denial" *snaring, some prevention of hitting, some prevention of spells*

Fire is for AoE damage *with degen*

Air is for high, single target damage *with some denial in blind*

All have some damage spells, but Fire and Air are mainly the damage attributes. Earth damage is mostly in knockdowns and taking advantage of that - along with some PBAoE. Water damage comes in hexes so it's damage+other effect *usually snaring* - sometimes can be AoE. Air damage comes in armor penetration on a single target.

And don't listen to posts who say fire isn't great. When combined with a "They're on Fire!" Paragon, you get near constant damage reduction if the ele can keep them on fire.

This, of course, is coming from a person who doodled in all professions at one time and only know the basics of what are not my mains. x)

Well what I am looking for is something for do HM PvE. Maybe with heros. Reason I brought that up, because someone said fire isn't great for HM. I have always used fire and works well for me.

I run a Water Ele in Ab, people get so mad when they get snared.

i would use earth. can use wards for defense and u retain some high dmg aoe skills that are quite powerful. good for HM.

I prefer Air for most of HM. To me, and Ele in HM situations (be it mission, vanquish, or dungoen) is better off working as team support. Air and Earth do this really well, but I like Air better personally. With Air, I can provide Blind and Weakness to limit the damage my team takes significantly. Then, to help my team deal damage, I can provide Cracked Armor. With 25% Armor Penetration, the spells do pretty good for damage, even though the monsters will have high armor. You can even go hybrid with Air+Earth or Air+Water to make use of skills like [arc lightning], [lightning touch], [chilling winds], [gust], [stoning], [slippery ground] and even [iron mist].

Some of my favorite builds are hybrids between elements. Consider the utility some of the spells have by combining them with the skills from other attributes.

I run An Ele main, and I like the Fire side best, although I do mix in the other elements now and then. How much will 'Winter' on a hero help the Fire Ele in HM?

It won't. Winter will make you deal cold damage, which is still elemental, and so will still get drastically reduced due to stupid amounts of AL.
